Seeking Artistic Director
Bangor Area Youth Choirs (BAYC) is seeking an Artistic Director for their Treble Choir and Youth Chorale ensembles ranging in age from 9 through high school. During the academic year there is one overlapping weekly rehearsal for each group. BAYC presents two formal concerts during their season, as well as other performances at various venues and in collaboration with a variety of other local arts groups. The Artistic Director is responsible for selecting a repertoire of music that is appealing, challenging, yet developmentally appropriate for young singers. In addition, the Artistic Director works closely with a volunteer Board of Directors composed of parents and community members, to collaborate in shaping and accomplishing the mission and vision of the organization. Although the tentative start date is January 1st, 2021, transitional involvement in the Fall/Winter 2020 is essential to assure a strong start to 2021. North Windham Union Church, UCC – Job Openings for Pianist/Organist and Music Minister/Director
North Windham Union Church, UCC in Windham, Maine is seeking to hire a Pianist/Organist and a Music Minister/Director. Both our Pianist/Organist and Minister of Music have retired. These roles may be separate or a combined position depending on skills and experience.
Due to Covid-19, our worship services are currently on-line and include only 4 pre-recorded piano/organ pieces and hymns per week. We hope to return to live services in the sanctuary later this year if conditions warrant that and church leadership decides to return.
Due to the virus pandemic, choral singing is not considered a safe practice and our choir program has been suspended indefinitely. We hope to resume the program when conditions are deemed safe – and at that point we will need someone with skills and experience to lead the choir. For the foreseeable future we are focused on replacing the Pianist/Organist position, but preference will be given to those with qualifications to also lead our choir program.
Pianist/Organist- provides piano and/or organ accompaniment for Sunday worship and other special services, including weddings, funerals, etc. They accompany the weekly adult choir rehearsals and special music during the summer. Candidates must have excellent piano skills; organ experience is also preferred. This is a contracted, part-time salaried position, requiring approximately 6-8 hours per week for planning, preparation and services. The salary is commensurate with abilities and experience. Music Minister/Director will lead and direct the church music program to include choral, vocal, and instrumental expressions of the experience of faith. Candidates must have strong choral directing background and proven ability to inspire and motivate others to express their faith through music. We have a talented and dedicated 12-18-member adult choir with a large repertoire of anthems. We seek candidates with a visionary plan to collaborate with the Pastor and Music Committee to lead the music program, which also includes helping manage a very successful community outreach concert series, Music with a Mission. This is a contracted, part-time salaried position, requiring approximately 10-12 hours per week for planning, preparation and services. The salary is commensurate with abilities and experience. The Greater Freeport Community Chorus (GFCC) is seeking an Artistic Director for its 2020-2021 Season. GFCC was founded in 1996 as a non-auditioned chorus and currently has approximately 70 members. We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic director who has experience directing a non-auditioned choral organization, has a love of choral music, works well in a shared decision-making structure, and supports GFCC’s mission. The Artistic Director reports to a choral member Board of Directors.
Mission: The Greater Freeport Community Chorus seeks to enrich the community by promoting the choral arts. We strive to foster in our membership and audiences an appreciation of choral music that is stylistically and culturally diverse.
Vision: The Greater Freeport Community Chorus aspires to become a premier community choral group through the quality of its performances and its outreach endeavors.
Time Commitment: Weekly 2 ½ hour Sunday night rehearsals in Freeport High School; 2 concerts each season – December and May – with a dress rehearsal the Friday night of each concert weekend

Artistic Management Responsibilities:
- Provides overall artistic leadership, vision, and direction to GFCC
- Attracts, inspires, and retains a diverse group of singers
- In the spring, presents to the Board, for approval, a comprehensive concert plan for the upcoming year.
- Auditions, selects, and prepares soloists and ensembles from within GFCC, as needed
- Informs the Board of any absence and arranges for appropriate substitute
- Supervises the accompanist and arranges for appropriate substitute if needed in the case of absence
- Participates in the creation of print and media material, including the concert program and newspaper articles
- If instrumentalists are required, selects and secures their commitment for rehearsals and concerts subject to financial approval from the board
- Serves as liaison with other choral groups to partner with for performances
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Communicates information in a timely manner with choir, Board, and others involved in concert preparation
- Attends Board meetings as needed to share vision, provide updates, and discuss upcoming seasons and concerts
- Collaborates with Treasurer and Board to review and operate within budget
- Adapts strategies to widen the appeal of GFCC to new audiences while retaining existing audiences and respecting the choir’s traditions and history
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- BA or Advanced Degree in Music with emphasis on choral conducting preferred or equivalent conducting experience
- Familiarity with a variety of choral repertoire
- Ability to balance strong leadership skills with a spirit of collaboration with the Board
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Positive and supportive attitude toward members.
