Dear Maine ACDA Members,
The Maine chapter of the ACDA has been steadily returning to some of our favorite traditions while also keeping in mind the importance of keeping our singers safe and healthy. Our All State festival in Gorham this past May was a huge success. We adjusted our usual format which normally includes two large children's choirs during the morning and afternoon performance. I am pleased to say that we were able to keep many of our traditions without sacrificing safety by inviting one age group/ choir only. We had over a dozen schools participate! This year, we will return to two choirs! Location TBA.
ME-ACDA also produces a Fall Conference for any and all K-12 teachers. This workshop features a headliner in multiple sessions, a guest choir, sight reading session, lunch w/ colleagues on the Friday of Indigeneous People's Day weekend.
Looking ahead, we are preparing to bring back the Fall Festival at Messalonskee High School on Nov 2nd. This is a fantastic opportunity to share what your choir is learning for the year and a chance to hear other choirs. Your singers will benefit from the contagious enthusiasm! This is not adjudicated and a wonderful way to start the year.
In the Spring, an adjudicated festival will be held at Scarborough High School. Your choir will work as a team in sight reading, a brief clinic w/ a judge and perform for helpful comments and praises. We look forward to your participation!
While there have been many challenges these past two years, we thrive in our chapter because of the support and dedication of our members and our board. The desire to return to our annual events, to improve them where necessary, to tailor them to adjust to this ever-changing time, has been an inspirational example of leadership and resourcefulness in the world of choral arts.
I look forward to supporting you as a ME-ACDA member.
All the Best,
Camille Saucier
